Cranial Dihydrogen Monoxide

A little while back I started the Facebook group, “Headwaters”. The group's focus is fishing for trout and char in source waters, whether tributaries or alpine lakes. A majority of the group consists of Tenkara anglers, but by no means is that a requisite for membership. As long as people practice ethical fishing habits and leave the environment in equal or better condition than they found it, all methods of fishing are encouraged.

Along the way, there have been times when I wanted to discuss or portray a certain topic but felt a simple post wouldn’t do it justice. This blog is a way to put my ideas in a format that will have a little more structure to it. Topics on here will range anywhere from trip reports, fly tying, strategy and techniques, to gear lists, gear reviews and backpacking philosophies. Pretty much anything that in one way or another relates to how I spend my time backpacking and fishing headwaters will be fair game.

Beyond chasing after wild and when possible, native trout – a big part of fishing headwaters is the adventure getting there. Yes, there are places you can fish only a few feet from the road, but what I am after are those hard to reach places that require hiking, wading, swimming, rock scrambling and backpacking to get to. If you have a similar interest in adventurous fishing, I hope you’ll enjoy the content.
